Facebook Timeline – what is Facebook Timeline and what does Facebook Timeline look like?

The last major facebook update took place on 22 September. facebook Timeline is one of the biggest changes we have seen from Facebook in a long time. In a way, it is a new concept of what Facebook is about. Or, as Mark Zuckerberg said at the F8 developer conference, 22 September 2011, in San Francisco:

"- All your stories, all your apps, a new way to express who you are"

Facebook Timeline is about how you present yourself for your friends with this timeline rather than just writing short notes about what you do and think. By using the timeline on your Facebook profile page, your friends can choose a specific year and month and quickly access all your (facebook) activity and content for that specific time. It's yet to be seen how the new timeline will affect our way of presenting our lives on Facebook and our way of using Facebook. The sceptical part of the audience believe it to be a more selfish way of using Facebook which focuses on presenting ourselves in the best possible way.

But in my opinion, although I only tested Facebook Timeline for a few days, there's something appealing in this more graphic interface and our desire to appear successful, beautiful and smart is hardly something that Facebook invented. They are just smart enough to absorb this into their strategy and latest development. What I know so far is that I don't actually miss the old interface.

You are able to modify and customise your profile page and timeline so that it is presented in the way you want.

The idea behind Timeline is to connect pretty much everything you do online to Facebook with help from Facebook Connect and of course all your offline activity that you decide to put into Facebook. With Facebook Connect you can connect your Facebook account and data with any site on the web that is using Facebook Connect. It also lets you find your existing friends who also use a specific Facebook Connect website, allowing you to share information and actions with your Facebook network. You can also publish information to Facebook based on your actions while visiting a Facebook Connect site. For example, when a user takes action like purchasing or reviewing a product, or posting content (Videos, Testimonials, Pictures) on a Facebook Connect-site, it generates a News Feed story on the user's Facebook profile.
