Why You Should Have a Facebook Fan Page - One Good Reason!

As a small business owner with a website you know how important social media is to your marketing strategy. You read endless blog posts on Twitter, facebook and LinkedIn and how to develop a marketing strategy using these platforms.

One of the main recommendations is that you should create a facebook fan page.

But let me ask you a question - how effective is a Facebook fan page? Does it help to bring in more sales? Does is drive more traffic to your website?

The answer to this question is very simple: no. Having a Facebook fan page does not drive more traffic to your website nor does it help bring in more sales.

What? How could that be? But everyone is talking about how effective Facebook is for marketing and how its the second most visited website in the world right under Google!?

On Facebook most people will join a group or a Fan page and then almost never visit the fan page again...unless it shows up in their news feed. Most fan pages just sit there with no activity.

So why should you have a Facebook fan page?

The one good reason that you should have a Facebook fan page is that you can take the badge from your fan page and place it on your website.

This way when a visitor comes to your website and sees your little Facebook fan page badge - and if you have let's say 100 fans - they will know that you are a real person with a real business and that people know of you.

The buzz word today is"social proof".When people come to your website they want to know that others have heard of you before. It looks really good when people see your badge and that "100 people Like...." your business.

For this reason its also important to update your fan page. Because if someone comes to your site and is still not sure but then sees your Facebook fan page badge - if the visitor clicks on it and your Facebook fan page hasn't been updated in months ....it doesn't look good.

The only issue is getting more fans to your page.Invite everyone in your network and ask your close friends to invite their friends.

Good luck!
